'Where We Breathe' Celebrates Paragliding in the Brecon Beacons

Some places stay with you forever.

The Brecon Beacons is one of those places.

For Katie Hollinshead, it isn’t just somewhere beautiful to visit. It’s where she's experienced some of her most memorable flights, watched incredible sunsets from the sky, and found moments of complete peace suspended above the landscape. It has become one of the places she proudly calls home.

That’s what inspired Where We Breathe.

A Collaboration with Visit Brecon Beacons

This artwork was created in collaboration with Visit Brecon Beacons, bringing together adventure tourism, storytelling and fine art to celebrate one of Wales’ most extraordinary landscapes.

At The Stunt Artists, we believe adventure deserves to be documented differently. Not just through photographs, but through stories, paintings and films that capture what it actually feels like to be there.

This collaboration is about encouraging more people to discover the Brecon Beacons—not only from the ground, but from the air.

The Story Behind the Painting

Where We Breathe depicts a lone paraglider soaring above the dramatic ridgelines of the Brecon Beacons.

While many people assume flying sports are all about adrenaline, the reality couldn’t be more different.

Paragliding is quiet.

Peaceful.

Meditative.

Once your feet leave the ground, the world slows down. You stop thinking about emails, deadlines and everyday life. You become completely present, moving with the air rather than fighting against it.

The title, Where We Breathe, reflects that feeling perfectly.

The mountains give you space to breathe. The sky gives you perspective. Together, they remind you how wonderfully small we are.

From Photograph to Painting

The artwork was painted using a stunning reference photograph captured by adventure photographer Henry George, whose work beautifully conveys the scale and atmosphere of flying in the Brecon Beacons.

His image captured a fleeting moment that became the foundation for the painting, allowing me to translate light, movement and emotion into oils on canvas.

Photography freezes a moment.
