Spitfire Art: A New Generation of Aviation Artwork

What does aviation art look like in a new generation? Fine artist Katie Hollinshead is exploring that question with the launch of Spitfire Perspective, a bold, contemporary take on one of Britain's most iconic aircraft.

Featuring a Spitfire flying above the dramatic coastline of Old Harry Rocks in Dorset, the original artwork brings together aviation history, landscape and contemporary fine art. Rather than following a traditional approach to military and aviation art, Katie combines vibrant colour, resin and mixed media to create a striking three dimensional effect that brings the aircraft and surrounding landscape to life.

The result is a piece that celebrates the heritage of British aviation while pushing the boundaries of how aircraft can be represented through fine art.

Contemporary military art with a distinctive finish

As a professional artist with a passion for flight and adventure, Katie draws inspiration from the world around her. Her work often begins with real experiences and extraordinary places, bringing a personal perspective to subjects that have traditionally been captured through more conventional styles of aviation painting.

Spitfire Perspective is finished in a handmade frame crafted from reclaimed wood, complementing the textures of the resin artwork. The piece was photographed at Tiger Helicopters at Shobdon Airfield, Herefordshire, bringing the project back to the local aviation community.

Katie launched the painting alongside Hereford Military Festival in September 2026, with the artwork displayed at the Green Dragon Hotel in Hereford. Since its launch, the collection has attracted growing interest, including enquiries from overseas.

The launch marks the beginning of Katie's new aviation art collection, with Spitfire Perspective leading the way. Alongside the original painting, fine art prints are now available, offering collectors and aviation enthusiasts the opportunity to own a piece of contemporary Spitfire art at a range of price points.
